Give details. Some examples are:

Be as specific as possible about your situation. Write in full sentences as this will form part of your letter.
You should attach copies of your evidence to this letter when you send it.
Be Aware – your lender will only extend your loan and reduce your repayments permanently IF you will still pay the loan off in a reasonable amount of time. If your lender rejects your request, you should seek advice from a free, independent financial counsellor by calling 1800 007 007 from anywhere in Australia.
If you could never afford these loan repayments from the start, you should call 1800 007 007 to get advice about whether you should have been given this loan to begin with.
Note: If the lender agrees to this variation it will want you to catch up your arrears when you get back on track. Once you are making your scheduled repayments again, make another hardship variation seeking to either pay extra if that’s possible or to have the arrears capitalised (added on to the end of your loan).
