This submission is in response to the Australian Banking Association’s (ABA) Consultation Paper: Use of credit cards for gambling transactions. This is a joint submission from Financial Counselling Australia, Consumer Action Law Centre and Financial Rights Legal Centre, and strongly supports a prohibition on the use of credit cards, including via e-wallets, for gambling. The use of credit for gambling can substantially increase the harm from gambling caused to people, and we commend the Australian Banking Association on undertaking this consultation to investigate and consider how to minimise gambling-related harm.
