National Reconciliation week is held annually from 27 May to 3 June.
It is a time that encourages all Australians to actively come on a journey towards creating meaningful change and an inclusive Australia, strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and first Nations peoples, acknowledging our unique histories, cultures, and achievements.
The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.
All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.
Our Reflect RAP was launched in 2018, followed by our Innovate RAP in 2023. Over the years these are some of the steps that our RAPs have inspired us to take.
- Staff participating in NRW, NAIDOC & Yabun events
- Improving internal policies and procedures to improve cultural safety in the workplace - cultural induction and training for staff, Acknowledgment of Country protocols, leave provisions for cultural and ceremonial leave for First Nations staff
- Greater use of First Nations suppliers, caterers and service delivery
- Development of culturally appropriate resources for First Nations clients (website, CLE, call centre protocols)
There is always more we can and must do to advance reconciliation and although over the last 8 years Financial Rights has made some large strides towards cultural maturity we would look to the future to do more.
The most important achievement for Financial Rights has been the establishment and support of the Mob Strong Debt Help service and its incredible team of First Nations staff. During National Reconciliation Week Financial Rights hosted an afternoon tea where Mob Strong shared with all staff the story of their pathway towards independence.
