The Board of Financial Rights Legal Centre is pleased to announce the appointment of Mitali Tyagi as Chief Executive Officer, effective 28 September 2026.
Mitali has a deep and enduring connection with Financial Rights having previously served on the Board, and as interim CEO. She has a compelling and values-centred vision for Financial Rights, with a strong desire to lead the organisation into its next chapter.
In announcing the appointment, Board Chair Natalie Pozdeev said:
“Mitali’s ability to connect day-to-day organisational priorities with broader goals and commitment to strengthening Financial Rights’ impact for our clients made her the standout candidate for this role”.
Mitali said:
“This organisation has a proud history of standing alongside people experiencing financial distress, and pushing for a fairer, more accountable financial system. I’m committed to building on that legacy with clarity of purpose, agility and a depth of impact for the communities we serve. Thank you to the Board for their confidence, and to our multidisciplinary team for the work they do every day for people trusting us in their hardest moments.”
Mitali is a strong believer in the power of advocacy, collaboration, and principled leadership in paving the way for fairer financial systems. She brings robust legal credentials and a consistent interest in advancing economic equity through regulatory frameworks. Her career began at Mallesons working on complex banking, financial and litigation matters, before moving into legal and policy roles within the Australian Government.
Over the past decade, she has demonstrated executive leadership and organisational stewardship working with governments across the Asia-Pacific on financial integrity and regulation through the Financial Action Taskforce. Her commitment to community legal service began early in her career with the Cape York Land Council.
As we enter our 40th year of operation at Financial Rights we look forward to this next stage in the organisation’s evolution.
