This 2024 publication is updated from the first 2014 edition which was written by Karen Cox of Financial Rights Legal Centre and Steve Snelgrove of Lismore and District Financial Counselling, with input from Bob Cruickshanks, formerly of the Insolvency Trustee Service of Australia, as it was then known.

The 2024 publication is again a collaborative work, led by Karen Cox, CEO of Financial Rights with substantial input from Alexandra Kelly, Director of Casework with Financial Rights. Karen also received support and contributions from Loretta Kreet, Senior Lawyer at Legal Aid Queensland who did significant second round editing of all the chapters, together with members of her team. Thanks particularly to:

  • Catherine Uhr and Bryony Walters on issues relating to social security legislation
  • Alex Nielson, Kristy Bloomfield and Charo Weldon for their first-round edits
  • Lucinda Jodrell Sweeney for the provision of administration support on the project

Loretta was also assisted with information from:

  • Zoe Watson, from LAQ, for providing family law expertise on property settlements
  • Narelle Ferrier from the Australian Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association on estimated costs of PIAs
  • Ana Oertel from the Caston Legal Centre for information on hosting online
  • John Fisher, from AFCA for providing access to bankruptcy authority form.
